Peace Corps, partners host annual young entrepreneurs’ contest

Santo Domingo.-  The Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic last week held its 9th annual competition "Build your dreams" for young entrepreneurs.

More than 60 youngsters from depressed communities across the country participated in the 3-day event staged at the Dominican Fiesta Hotel.

The annual competition was held jointly with the company Mondelez International, with collaboration by the Dominican Development Foundation and Junior Achievement Dominicana also featured a motivational speech by Adrián Tropical restaurants founder Luis Marino López.

The finalists submitted their business plan to a panel of judges from the local business community to compete for one of 3 prizes of RD$50,000, donated by Banco Popular and Dominican Watchman, to start their own business.

Among the representatives from the organizations that took part as competition jurors figured Banco Ademi, Banco Union, Banco ECLOF, Accion Coach, REDDOM Foundation, the US Embassy’s Commercial Section, Banco ADOPEM, Fundación Tropicalia, Dream Project, GoodNeighbors, businessman Jerry Dupuy and the Alerta Joven program.

The winning projects: Andy Sterling Felizde Barahona, Fábrica de Muebles Nuestro Sueño; Adry Paniagua Agüero and Ruth Agüero Mota from San Cristóbal, Sharo's Decorations, and Yomeris Collado Isaela from Bahoruco, Copy Center Collado.
